Clear Up Bad AOL Graphics

If you have AOL, pictures on this Website may seem unclear because of AOL's setup and/or browser. To see the pictures clearly, follow these steps:

For AOL 6.0:

  • Select the Settings menu at the top of the screen.
  • Open Preferences.
  • Internet Preferences.
  • There will be four tabs at the top of the window, choose the WEB GRAPHICS tab.
  • Ensure the Never Compress Graphics option is highlighted.
  • If you changed the option to Never Compress Graphics, click “Apply”
  • And then “OK”
  • You should now reload the Web Page by clicking the circular refresh icon in your browser. You may need to log out of AOL and go back to see the new preferences.

For AOL 5.0:

  • Select MY AOL menu at the top of the screen.
  • Open Preferences.
  • Select the WWW icon.
  • There will be four tabs at the top of the window, choose the WEB GRAPHICS tab.
  • Locate the box (which is probably checked) that says “Use Compressed Graphics.”
  • Un-check that box (if there is an “X” in it), and click Apply and then OK.
  • You should now reload the Web page by clicking the circular refresh icon in your browser. You may need to log out of AOL and go back to see the new preferences.

For AOL 4.0:

  • Click on My AOL (menu on top of screen)
  • Click on Preferences
  • Click on the WWW icon
  • Click on the Web Graphics tap (top right)
  • Make sure that "Use compressed graphics" is turned OFF. (note: this will NOT affect your computer in any way)
  • *restart your computer

For AOL 3.0:

Not done yet! Your old, bad, over-compressed images have been stored in your computer’s memory. To see the images as they are supposed to look, now you have to clear your cache:

In the web browser, click on the “View” tab and drag down to “Internet Options.” Under “Temporary Internet Files,” choose “Delete Files.”
